SARAH WOODBURN - 29 OCT - 5 DEC

Sarah Woodburn lives and works in Woking and London. During the week Sarah assists artist Raqib Shaw, where her role involves many hours of detailed drawing. This explains the urge in her own practice to break free from the confines of the highly rendered in exchange for something less restrained. Swapping the precision of the mechanical pencil, perfect for a consistent line, for a splayed brush filled with acrylic paint. Through a process of intuition the compositions form organically. Marks, outlines, stains and shapes are composed, disrupted and then composed again. Mark-making as a means to offload, enlighten and indeed lighten when everything else is heavy.
